Valuing a business in one industry is much like valuing a business in any other – almost. The valuation principles are generally the same, and the data sources are the same. The differences are mostly in the selection of the market and industry data that is the foundation of the valuation analysis. Differences in industries are always taken into account. For example, one key indicator of bank performance is Return on Average Assets, which is of only passing interest in most other industries. Nursing home values are often measured in terms of beds available, which has no relevance to valuing say, a grocery store. National and local economic conditions can have an effect on industries – some may thrive in a downturn, while others suffer. It is important that the appraiser understands the factors that drive value in an industry, and has familiarity with what is happening in the particular markets served by an individual company. Chinese Language Proficiency

Through is subsidiary, Business Equity Appraisal Reports (BEAR), WK has many years of experience working with hundreds of businesses owned or operated by Chinese-speaking investors and management. These companies have usually been located in the U.S., but often have close ties to affiliates in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, and other Chinese mainland locations. Some of these have been part of an organizational structure that includes companies located in the Cayman Islands, Trinidad-Tobego, and other offshore domiciles. WK associates speak the three main Chinese dialects, read and write Chinese.
